Just Another Thought

11/22/07

I have been reading a book. Is is called: "Small Miracles II" It is a compilation of personal stories. In one of the stories, there was ayoung woman who tood a cab iin NY City. She found a daimond bracelet. She started to give it to the driver, but stopped herself by thinking he would just pocket it. Then she thought she deserved it just as much if not more. She got home and showed her mother the bracelet, who insisted that seh return it to the cab company at once. She wanted to keep it until after the weekend to wear it to a dinner party on that following Saturday. She eventually decided to go with her moms idea and return the bracelet. The story goes on and she ends up at the party. She feels underressed and goes to find her friend. Beside her friend is her friends mother. That is when she sees it again. ater on that evening, she pull her friend aside and asks her about the bracelet. Turns out it was the same bracelet that earlier that week she had returned to the cab company, but only after her mother insisting upon turning it in.

Anyway there is a comment at the end of the story. It says:

Attempts to hide the truth are futile, for truth, like oil in water, will always rise to the surface.

If she wouldn't have returned the bracelet she would have been caught red handed with it.

I have live around people my whole life that think it is ok to lie to make yourself look better. I make it a personal lifelong goal to be truthful, even about the smallest things. It doesn't matter how big the lie, or the reason for the lie. Someone usually gets hurt.

I am trying to rasie my son in a truth-filled manner. I am constantly onhim for telling a fib, even if he may not know what he is doing. I want him to grow up and be an honest man. Hopefully he will learn this important life liesson from me.
